Write your own reviewTwo operating systems without dual booting.
I've used rack and tray setups to run different operating systems for years. This build needed SATA instead of IDE drives, and this Kingwin rack and tray was the answer. It is much better than dual booting on a single hard drive. Now I need to find a way to boot an open source operating system on this ASUS motherboard!
Nosiy Fan
Worked well after initial install. After 3 weeks cooling fan started to make a low hum now is screams continuously. Other than that is works great.
You get what you pay for
Works for what I needed. Like all the other reviewers said the LEDs burn out in a day or so.
Works
1st one I received must have been a returned item - no cello wrap - front plastic panel brokien, no lock key, and missing rubber mount foot. 2nd one works great, but the unit has 2 leds, green (which I think was supposed to be hd activity, but stays on all the time), and red power led. The red led stopped working after 1 day. But, the actual performance - read-write it very good. Have 2 of these and both work great(and the red led on the 2nd is gone too). So, if you don't care about the leds, the performance for the price is great.
Marginal Value
I have been using the ''Inclose'' units in a tower case for years and needed a encloser for a SATA drive. Apparently the Inclose units are not longer available, so I purchased the Kingwin unit. It works just fine except for the Hard drive activity light. It only flashes at startup then is no longer working. Curious, but not serious enough to RPA.
Very good aluminum made frame and tray.
I have used HD trays for years. Some good and some bad. This my first one for SATA drives. This is a supper aluminum metal tray and frame. Very well built and works perfect. I also bought an extra tray. This is the first tray I have seen that the drive is mounted in a shock protected tray.
gave me the runaround with the lock
id did not work, I tried everything, changed cable, controller HDD, just everything. and then I locked the lock and since then it works perfectly. So DON'T FORGET TO LOCK IT!
A good buy
Purchased one KF-811-BK rack which comes with one tray, also purchased two extra trays, these items work just fine, insert the drive into the tray secure with supplied screws, secure the rack in the computer, slide the tray into the rack with the tray handle a bit above horizontal, then lower the handle with a gentle but firm push on the tray, the tray should slide right in with no problem, then turn the supplied key to lock (90 degrees only) please don't force the key! to make a long story short I would buy this product again & would recomend to anyone. I am giving the rack and tray a solid 5 across the board, Kingwin produces a good product.
It works for me
I have 5 and had no problems.
Great bargain
Feels cheaply made but works without problems and the price is right.
